Turning a hobby into a side hustle: lessons from a juice enthusiast
I started making juice at home a year ago, mostly as a way to use up the extra fruits and veggies from my garden. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it – the process is meditative, and the results are delicious and healthy.
As I experimented with different recipes and techniques, I realized that having the right equipment makes all the difference. I upgraded to a Peach Street Centrifugal Juicer 700W and was amazed at how much easier it made the process. The juicer’s power and efficiency mean I can make large batches quickly, which has been a game-changer.
Encouraged by my family’s enthusiasm for my juice, I started selling it to friends and neighbors. Word spread, and soon I had a small but steady stream of customers. I’ve learned that turning a hobby into a side hustle requires more than just a good product – it demands attention to detail and a willingness to adapt.
managing the business side
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is managing inventory and supplies. I need to balance the cost of ingredients with the price customers are willing to pay. To keep costs under control, I’ve started buying produce in bulk from local farmers. Here are some other strategies that have helped:
- keeping track of customer preferences to minimize waste
- reusing containers and labeling them clearly
- setting aside time each week to plan and prep for the next week’s sales
As Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” I’m still figuring out how to make my juice business work, but I’m getting there.
“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
growing the customer base
To grow my customer base, I’ve focused on building relationships with local businesses. I’ve approached cafes and restaurants about supplying them with juice, and I’m happy to say that a few have taken me up on the offer. Here are some other tactics that have helped me reach new customers:
- using social media to share behind-the-scenes glimpses of my juicing process
- partnering with like-minded businesses to cross-promote each other’s products
By staying focused on quality, customer service, and community engagement, I’m confident that my juice business will continue to thrive.
